- Specify waveform characteristics

This problem is a review of waveform characteristics calculations. Though this problem is not difficult, it will be necessary to be able to solve it to understand the other problems on multiple PRF ranging.

We suggest you use the radar range, time, and frequency calculator to do your calculations correctly and to understand these relationships.

Consider a radar that uses two different pulse repetition frequencies (PRF) at different times.

The first PRF has a pulse repetition interval (PRI) composed of 40 range bins (including the transmitted pulse), each range bin having width of 0.25 km. The pulse transmitted on this first PRF is equal in width to the range bins.

The second PRF has a PRI composed of 41 range bins, each range bin having width 0.25 km, identical to the first PRF. The only difference between the two PRFs is that the first has 40 range bins and the second has 41.  What is the pulse width for these PRFs?

  1. What is the time berween pulses for the first PRF and for the second PRF?
  2. What is the unambiguous range for the first PRF and for the second PRF?
