We have seen how to determine the true target range with radar hits from two carefully selected multiple PRFs. We know that the techniques will work well for the one target we have used. What happens if there are multiple targets?
In this problem PRF 1 is the same that we have been using: 40 range bins with a pulse width of 0.25 km. Assume that the radar uses matched filters and assume there is no pulse compression. PRF 2 has the same range bin size as PRF 1, but is made up of 41 range bins.
When transmitting on PRF 1, hits are observed at range bins 24 and 26. When transmitting on PRF 2, hits are observed at range bins 22 and 24. The situation is shown below with returns expanded for the ambiguous returns from 5 km to 7 km.
What is the range to each of the two targets?
